Day 1 – 3: Shinde concession, Okavango delta – Footsteps across the Delta (2 nights)
On arrival into Maun, you will be met and transferred by private charter to Shinde camp and be driven to your mobile camp “Footsteps across the Delta” where you will spend the first two nights of your safari adventure.
The area: At Footsteps Across the Delta you enter one of the great, untamed regions of Africa, the spectacular Okavango Delta, and experience the astonishing contrasts created when the mighty Okavango River flows into the arid Kalahari Desert. The result is a variety of habitats, riverine forest, palm islands, permanent swamps and dry sandveld all with an unparalleled wealth of animal diversity. Read More »
The camp: This Ker & Downey Botswana program maintains the elegance and eccentricity of the original ‘African Safari under canvas’. The Footsteps Across the Delta base is a comfortable private camp that accommodates guests in three specially designed twin bedded tents with sewn-in floors. Each tent has its own bucket shower and bush toilet, and even a daily laundry service. The ‘bush kitchen’ run by our chef, prepares menus to wet all appetites.
Activities: The emphasis is on exploring this breathtakingly beautiful and diverse environment as the first African explorer’s did, either by mokoro (traditional canoe) or on foot. The Footsteps Across the Delta offers the highlight of a ‘true safari’ experience. No special training is required, as distances travelled resemble those of early days, where the emphasis is on exploration and discovery – each morning tracking fresh spoor to reveal the night’s events. Other possible activities include game-drives, mokoro trips or fishing, which vary throughout the year.
Footsteps Across the Delta offers a personal safari experience, hosting a maximum of 6 guests at a time, making it an ideal option for small groups of friends or family. The emphasis on your stay at Footsteps is on guided walks where you have the time to focus on learning about tracking wildlife and understanding animal movement, patterns and behaviour, as well as more in depth information on trees, grasses and the finer details. Being on foot instead of in a vehicle affords this unique perspective. The Footsteps Across the Delta Camp is the base of our Young Explorer’s Delta packages, which is a family safari led by a specialist guide that tailors the safari to suit children as young as 7 years old.
Day 3 – 5: Khwai Community Area – Moremi / Chobe: Khwai Tented Camp (2 nights)
After an early morning activity at Footsteps you will game drive through to the airstrip where you will connect with your charter flight to Khwai airstrip. Upon your arrival at Khwai airstrip you will game drive through the concession area to Khwai tented camp for the next two nights of your safari adventure.
The area: Khwai is a private community run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve along the river Khwai. The Khwai River forms a boundary between the reserve and the community area. The river is the sole source of water for miles around attracting wildlife from afar. As this is community-run all proceeds from tourism go directly to help local people and local projects through the Khwai Community Trust. In addition, being a community concession, guests are privy to night drives that are usually not permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves.
The vegetation here is quite different from the Western section of Moremi where great stands of Leadwood and Mopane woodlands occur in close proximity to open grasslands and the Khwai River. Wildlife encountered includes lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, as well as a multitude of other animals, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, hippo and giraffe to name a few. Read More »
Activities: Exploring after dark with spotlights offers you an opportunity to experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. There is the added opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot and enjoy an up close personal encounter with the varied flora and fauna in the area.
The camp has the romance of a mobile camp, where there are no permanent structures and everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as we found it, having little or no impact on the environment. You will enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, with beds and private en-suite bathrooms in this remote wilderness area. This camp is furnished with bucket showers under the stars. Your toilet is also en-suite and is a flush toilet for your convenience. Read More »
Day 5 – 7: Linyanti Swamps, Chobe Enclave – Linyanti Bush Camp (2 nights)
After an early morning activity at Khwai tented Camp you will game drive through to the airstrip where you will connect with your charter flight to Saile airstrip. Upon your arrival at Saile airstrip you will game drive through the Chobe Enclave to Linyanti Bush Camp for the next two nights of your safari adventure.
The camp: Linyanti Bush Camp is a small, intimate 12 bedded tented camp on the banks of the Linyanti marshes in a private reserve, which borders the western boundary of Chobe in the Chobe Enclave. The camp is limited to small exclusive groups who seek a personalized experience in a private concession away from the main tourist’s routes. Read More »

The area is best known for its large populations of Elephant and buffalo that congregate in vast numbers especially during the dry season. Lion, sable, roan, leopard, wild dog, and a number of the plains game can be enjoyed at Linyanti. The rare and elusive sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo and crocodile can also be found in the surrounding marshes. The Linyanti Swamps are one of the most attractive areas in the park as it is the only source of water in the dry months where a lot of the wildlife moves to, boasting a great diversity of game and a restful atmosphere. The area’s relative remoteness makes it a favoured wild safari destination and one of the best sought after areas in Northern Botswana. The area also offers spectacular birding all year round.
