Detailed safari Itinerary:
Day 1 – 4: Khwai Community Area, Moremi / Chobe - Khwai Tented Camp (3 nights)
After your arrival in Maun you will be flown by charter flight to your camp situated in the eastern section of Moremi called Khwai on a private concession, where you will spend the first three nights of your safari at Khwai Tented Camp.
The area: Khwai is a private community run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai River forms a boundary between the reserve and the community area and is the sole source of water for miles around attracting wildlife from afar. As this is community run all proceeds from tourism go directly to help local people and local projects through the Khwai Community Trust.
The activities & wildlife: The camp is on an exclusive site on the banks of the Khwai River within the community area. Being a community concession, Khwai Tented Camp allows guests to experience night drives, which are not usually permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves. Exploring after dark with spotlights offers you an opportunity to experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. There is the added opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot and enjoy up close personal encounters with the flora and fauna. The vegetation here is quite different from the Western section of Moremi where Leadwood and Mopane woodlands occur in close proximity to open grasslands and the Khwai River. Wildlife encountered includes lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, as well as a multitude of other animals, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, hippo and giraffe to name a few. Read More »
The camp: It has the romance of a mobile camp, where there are no permanent structures and everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as we found it, having little or no impact on the environment. You will enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, beds and private en-suite bathrooms in this remote wilderness area. Read More »
Day 4 – 7: Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta - Moremi Crossing (3 nights)
On the last day of your safari at Khwai Tented Camp you will have a short morning activity before being chartered to the Okavango Delta. After half hours scenic flight over Western Botswana you will arrive at Moremi Airstrip where you will be picked up and transferred to your Lodge.
The camp: Moremi Crossing is a new 16-tented camp built on a palm-fringed island surrounded by the Moremi’s game-rich seasonal floodplains and overlooking Chief’s Island. Moremi Crossing is a new style safari camp combining luxury with simplicity. This is a 100% eco-friendly development featuring the latest in solar and waste disposal technology. Accommodation consists of 16 en suite and spacious tents on raised decks, each with their own veranda. There is both a Family Tent and a Honeymoon Tent. The main building consists of a large open plan deck that has a spectacular view over the Boro River onto Chief’s Island. This crescent-shaped area is built on different levels to give you the feeling of open space. The Dining room, bar and lounge areas are covered by a large thatched roof that hugs the ancient riverine tree line and accentuates its most beautiful assets. Various small private lounge areas are created for comfort, privacy and spaciousness. Within the tree line you will find a nice shaded decked area that leads to the pool. Magnificent Ilala Palms, Giant Ebony, Mangosteen, Sausage and Giant Fig Trees shade the whole camp.
The activities & wildlife: Time slows down at Moremi Crossing as here guests have the chance to experience the Okavango Delta and its game from a slower and closer perspective: whilst on foot or silently being poled by Makoro through the Delta’s waterways. Through the provision of high quality guiding services and new custom made boats, Moremi Crossing offers a unique and far more personalized wildlife experience. Activities on offer are half or full day Makoro trips with game walks; bush walks with a picnic lunch, wilderness camping and sunset motorboat cruises. Game walks are conducted on Chief’s Island where you may come across numerous animal species, as well as a wide selection of birds and insects. For the more adventurous, we offer wilderness camping. This involves packing up a Makoro with camping equipment and going with a professional guide out into the Delta for a night or two. It’s a magical experience and offers the opportunity to get close to the birds and animals that inhabit the Delta. For the less energetic there are boat cruises up and down the Boro River or you can take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere of the camp and its facilities. Moremi Crossing combines simplicity with luxury and is a perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature at its best. Moremi Crossing being a water based camp offers guests an opportunity to experience all the wild elements that contribute to the Okavango’s vast ecosystem. Wildlife regularly spotted on walks includes Lion, Leopard, Wild dog, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo, Red Lechwe and many more. On the Makoro’s guests are able to see a variety of water birds such as African Jacana’s, African Fish eagles and Malakite Kingfishers darting between the reeds. In addition, there is also a chance that your guide will find the rare Pel’s Fishing owl. Read More »
